The pioneers of organic farming
In 1986, a small group of farmers from the municipality of Génave —a region within the Natural Park of the Sierra de Segura—, began a new way of life that made them the pioneers of organic farming in Spain.
Since then, more farmers have joined with a clear goal: to care for consumer health, while respecting the environment. This has made Olivar de Segura an example in the world of organic extra virgin olive oil.

The principles of organic farming promote the health of people, animals, plants, soil and the planet as one and invisible system. Also, relations which ensure the justice and the opportunities of development of everyone are stablished.

Organic products are the answer to the most demanding consumers. Organic farming avoids the use of fertilizers, pesticides, veterinary products in animals and aditives in food which can have negative effects in pleople’s health. Besides, organic farmers respect the natural cycle of plants, so they can grow providing the fruits higher density of nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants.

Environmental balance
The practice of organic agriculture ensure the natural symbiosis between animals and plants, and thereby preventing the risks for nature, conserving the biodiversity, reducing the greenhouse gas emissions and facilitating the balance in the organic agricultural systems.
Organic olive grooves pay particular attention to the soil management, promoting its organic richness and the humidity by the use of vegetation covers, composting of mill’s waste’s and by the addition of prunning wastes. The vitality of the soil facilitates both an appropiate nutrition of the olives and an effective protection against pests and diseases.
